Centre for IWK Research and Innovation in Surgery (IRIS)

The Centre for IWK Research and Innovation in Surgery (IRIS) provides an integrated, multidisciplinary research program built on the pillars of innovation, collaboration, and education. Through partnerships in research and people-centred innovation, IRIS aims to improve the health-related quality of life of pediatric surgical patients and their families across the Atlantic Provinces.

The Centre is committed to generating and participating in clinically driven, inclusive research that ensures the diverse population of the Atlantic Provinces benefits from the best available evidence, while equipping trainees with the research skills, mentorship, and resources needed to become clinician-scientists.

IRIS brings together expertise in cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, urology, plastic surgery, general and thoracic surgery, otolaryngology, and orthopaedic surgery. Under the leadership of the Centre's Director, staff surgeon Dr. Daniel Keefe, these specialties work collaboratively to develop and implement changes that advance excellence in care, improve outcomes by expanding and accelerating research, and foster an inclusive learning environment through mentorship, education, and funding.
