In recognition of World Rare Disease Day, IWK is proud to launch a new video showcasing how precision medicine is transforming care for patients and families living with rare diseases. The video features the voices and experiences of both patients and staff, highlighting the power of partnership, innovation, and personalized care.

Rare diseases affect millions of people worldwide, yet many patients face long diagnostic journeys and limited treatment options. Precision medicine, which uses genomic and other advanced tools to tailor care to each individual, offers new hope by improving diagnosis and guiding treatment decisions.

“This video reflects what precision medicine means to us at IWK; targeted treatments, improving lives through earlier diagnosis, and compassionate, individualized care. On World Rare Disease Day, we are honoured to share the stories of those who inspire and drive our work every day.” said Lee Anne Boutilier, Director of Precision Medicine.

“This video brings together patient perspectives alongside clinicians, researchers, and staff who are building precision medicine into everyday care. Through their stories, you can see how personalized approaches are improving outcomes and shaping the future of healthcare for people with rare and complex conditions.” Krista Jangaard, President and CEO IWK

The launch of this video highlights IWK’s commitment to advancing precision medicine through clinical care, research, and collaboration. By centering patient voices, the initiative reflects a shared goal: improving diagnosis, guiding treatment decisions, and advancing equity in care.
