Located within IWK Health, MicroResearch International been improving local community-focused research capacity and maternal child health in Eastern Africa. We do this through the efforts of small, locally-driven multidisciplinary health research teams developing research projects to improve health outcomes.

The Maritime Intestinal Research Alliance (MIRA) is a centre of excellence in Gastroenterology (GI) research. Located at IWK Health, we work in partnership with Dalhousie University as the only tertiary children’s hospital serving the Maritime Provinces, and the sole referral centre for pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) for these three provinces.
We accept new referrals from family physicians, pediatricians, or nurse practitioners for patients less than 16 years old.
The Centre for Pediatric Pain Research, located at IWK Health, is an international leader in children’s pain research. The interdisciplinary research conducted by our faculty, students, and staff tackles many facets of children’s acute and chronic pain. We are committed to conducting high-quality research on how to better understand, assess, and manage children’s pain and translating this research into improved practice.
The Canadian Center for Vaccinology (CCfV), located at the IWK Health Centre, is a collaboration of Dalhousie University, IWK Health, and Nova Scotia Health Authority. It was established to develop, implement, and evaluate vaccine technologies and vaccines for infectious diseases that have a significant impact on Canadian and global health, and to train experts in these critical and evolving fields.
