Nicole Hankinson, BSW, RSW

Youth and Caregiver Engagement Coordinator

(she/her)

Nicole is the Youth and Caregiver Engagement Coordinator, she shares the role with her colleague, Mallery Sylliboy. She divides her time between Integrated Youth Services and the broader Mental Health and Addictions Program at the IWK. Nicole sees her position as a vital bridge, linking the voices of youth and caregivers with decision-makers, ensuring their perspectives shape everything we do.

Before joining the team, Nicole spent 12 years at Family SOS, a local non-profit organization. With a bachelor's degree in social work from Dalhousie University, she led various client-centered programs, focusing on supporting parents, children, and youth. Her approach consistently prioritized trauma-informed and attachment-based methodologies. Although her work wasn't specifically in Mental Health and Addiction, Mental Health and Addiction was always a part of her role. Nicole was a key advocate, helping individuals access needed services. Her time in the nonprofit sector provided firsthand insight into the challenges of securing sustainable funding to support communities effectively and the difficulty finding and accessing the right support at the right time.

Integrated Youth Services excites Nicole because it addresses these challenges head-on. She's passionate about investing in organizations who are already connected with youth in our communities.

Outside of work, Nicole enjoys curling up with a good mystery book, or spending time with her husband, two children, and their dog. They love going on adventures and exploring the great outdoors.
