“Working here gives me the opportunity to support patients through some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of their lives,” says Sabina Thapa, social worker in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic at Dr. Maria Angwin Memorial Wyse Road Health Clinic. “I am passionate about providing compassionate, respectful care that honors each person’s unique journey and committed to addressing the social and emotional aspects of reproductive health- areas that are too often minimized or overlooked.”

Thapa provides psychosocial assessments, emotional support and counseling to individuals accessing OB-GYN services. This includes support during times of crisis, safety planning, mental health support, resource navigation, advocacy, education and empowerment.

“I am drawn to the clinic’s commitment to holistic, patient-centered care,” says Thapa. “This work resonates with me both personally and professionally, as everyone deserve informed, respectful, safe inclusive spaces where care is not only clinically sound but also culturally sensitive, trauma informed, emotionally responsive, and truly person-centered.”

Thapa cites a recent experience to exemplify the value of the clinic’s approach.

“Supporting a patient who was anxious and mistrustful of the healthcare system due to past trauma reminded me how powerful compassionate advocacy can be for those who’ve felt unheard. By listening with empathy, validating her concerns, and guiding her through care in a trauma-informed way, I watched her grow confident and engaged — a moment that truly exemplifies the value of the work we do every day.”
