A request for a quote for some decals on a new piece of equipment turned into an underwater-themed makeover for a room in IWK Health’s children’s Nuclear Medicine department.

A gaggle of smiling sea creatures featuring fish, a stingray and a turtle adorn the walls now a calming shade of blue while a scuba diving child and a school of colourful fish cover the new medical equipment.

Sandra Ellis, Nuclear Medicine Team Lead, explained they reached out to get a quote for a few decorations in the updated room and that led to the donated vinyl wrap for the gamma camera and murals for the wall to create an underwater aquarium experience.

“Modifications such as this have a positive impact on the experiences the pediatric patients have during stressful exams and procedures,” she said.

Auto Trim & Signs, a division of Trinity Energy Group of New Glasgow, was happy to make the donation. Like many families in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes, their employees know firsthand the value of IWK Health and the incredible care it provides.

“For my family, the IWK holds a very special place in our hearts. My son was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis in 2018 at the age of 4. From the moment of his diagnosis, the staff and healthcare professionals at the IWK have been there every step of the way,” said Kaitlyn Carvery, who works at Trinity Energy Group.

Now a trip for an imaging appointment will be a little more special for a lot of children.
