We would like to thank you for your kindness and support as we adjust to the One Person One Record (OPOR) clinical information system.
Implementing OPOR will bring patient information, such as test results, medications, and care plan, into one secure system that can be accessed by your care team across Nova Scotia. It replaces many older computer systems and paper charting. IWK Health was the first health centre to implement OPOR on December 6th. Across the province, health care facilities with Nova Scotia Health will also implement this system over the next few years which will result in safer, more connected, and more coordinated care over time.
While these benefits are meaningful and long‑term, we recognize that getting there will mean adjustment for patients, families, and staff alike.
As the healthcare teams adapt to this large and complex change, you may notice:
- Longer visit times, particularly for ambulatory or outpatient appointments
- More time spent by your care providers documenting or reviewing information during your visit
- Delays in processes (e.g. registration, lab testing) that previously moved more quickly
For inpatients, this may also mean care teams spending additional time at computers as they ensure information is entered accurately and safely. Or activities taking a little longer than usual.
Your partnership makes a difference. Thank you.
