Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is lifelong, neurodevelopmental, and a spectrum. ASD impacts how a person’s brain understands the world around them and can affect social communication and social interaction. People with ASD also often have restrictive and repetitive interests or activities. At different times in a person’s life, they may require different levels of support. ASD is generally recognized early in life, although can be diagnosed later for some individuals.
How we help
The preschool and school age diagnostic teams at IWK Health accept referrals from healthcare or education professionals. Your child may see a Psychologist and/or a Developmental Pediatrician as part of the assessment. The Developmental Pediatrician requires a referral from a physician, nurse practitioner, or dentist to access their services.
