The IWK Family Library is Open:
Tuesdays - Fridays, 9:30am - 5:00pm (Closed Mondays)
The library collection includes hundreds of books (and some videos) about medical conditions, child and youth development, grief and loss, parenting, mental health, newborn care, and women's and maternal health. It also offers English and French movies and video games for in-hospital use, picture books, comic books, toys and puzzles, and novels for all ages. There’s a small multicultural section with some books in Arabic, Simplified Chinese and Mi'kmaq, as well as a large French section.
The library has computer workstations and a printer available for families. Families may use the Internet or send email in the library while they are visiting IWK Health. We can help you find and print health articles. We can also mail articles to your home.
How it works
- Patients, families, staff, volunteers, and the public may borrow books for two weeks. Renewals may be done by phoning 902-470-8351 or visiting in person.
- After hours, items may be returned in the yellow Returns Box across from the library, next to the Heart & Hearth Café entrance.
- IWK patients/families may borrow four video games and four movies at a time (for in-hospital patient use only). They are due back in one week.
