The Gynecology Surgery, Operating Rooms, and Recovery Room help by providing care for patients undergoing both emergency and elective surgeries for various gynecological reasons.
How we help
The health care team on this unit coordinates a patient’s journey from admitting on their scheduled surgery day, through surgery and recovery.
Printed material outlining surgery details and care required at home after your procedure will be given to you when you sign consent with your surgeon. Your surgeon will indicate if you will be coming for day surgery or if you will be admitted to the hospital.
If you are scheduled for day surgery, you will be discharged home after your procedure.
After your surgery, you will not be able to drive a car or operate any machinery for 24 hours. You cannot be responsible for small children for 24 hours and you cannot drink any alcohol for 24 hours. You must arrange a drive home and have a responsible adult stay with you until the next day. You should not sign any legal documents within this 24 hour period.
If you will be admitted (inpatient surgery), you will be staying in hospital overnight. You can expect your stay to be approximately one to three days. Some procedures may require a longer hospital stay, see Adult Surgery Inpatient unit.
