Dr. Jane McKay-Nesbitt

Board Director

Jane McKay-Nesbitt now serves her community as a volunteer after retiring from a long and successful career, first with government, then business, and finally academia. In each of these arenas, Jane held management positions and demonstrated strong leadership abilities.

Jane retired from Bryant University (Smithfield RI) having achieved the rank of full Professor of Marketing. Her research interests are in social marketing, in which marketing principles are applied to social issues (e.g., health, the environment). Her work has been published in well-respected academic journals and she has presented her research in Canada, the US, and Europe. Jane continues to review manuscripts submitted to journals for publication. Prior to becoming an academic, Jane worked for the RBC Financial Group as a Financial Planner, a Personal Banking Manager, and an Investment Advisor. Jane began her career with the Manitoba Government where she first worked for the Department of Agriculture and later with the Department of Health.

An active volunteer throughout her career, Jane has served as president of national and provincial professional associations, and as chair and member of many community organizations. Most recently she chaired the Women’s Advisory Committee of the Halifax Regional Municipality (2020 – 2024). As she has done throughout her career, Jane continues to play an active role in her church community.

The breadth of Jane’s abilities is evidenced by the numerous awards she has received, including a Doctoral Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, a Royal Bank Market Management Award, an Excellence in Teaching Award from Bryant University, and the Emerald Literati Network Highly Commended Paper, Journal of Social Marketing.

Throughout her life, Jane’s passion has always been, and continues to be, the wellbeing of women and children. This passion is evidenced by her work and volunteer commitments, and by her devotion to her own family.
