Communications, Engagement & Change

The IWK Communications, Engagement & Change team is responsible for maintaining strong communications leadership for IWK Health through an effective public relations program that includes both internal and external communications.

How we help

The Communications, Engagement & Change team offers communications advice and support to all members of the IWK Health community, including patients, families, staff, physicians and our many partners.

Media Relations
The IWK advocates for strong and consistent cooperation between IWK Health and the media community. All media requests must be routed through the Communications, Engagement & Change department. Media requests are considered a priority and are dealt with in a timely fashion. The rights and needs of patients and families are the Health Centre's primary concern, so there are legal and ethical restrictions on the extent and type of information that may be released.

Media Visits
All visiting media must be accompanied by a Communications, Engagement & Change or Protection Services staff member while on IWK Health property. Staff will escort media to and from the interview/event. Media will be instructed as to what they can and cannot film/photograph based on family consent and health centre policy which addresses family and staff privacy and confidentiality.

On-call
A Communications, Engagement & Change representative is on-call 24/7 to address emergency requests. For an emergency media contact during non-business hours, please call IWK Health switchboard at 902-470-8888, and ask to have the representative on-call paged.
