Thriving Teams.
Transforming Care.
Brighter Futures.

We are proud to share the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan for IWK Health's Mental Health & Addictions program. This plan sets our direction for the coming years as we work to improve mental health and addictions care for children, youth, and families. This plan was shaped by input from staff, physicians, youth, families, and community partners. Together, we are building a system where everyone feels respected, heard, and supported.

Here's what's included in our 2025-2029 Strategic Plan:

The way we work together

Our approach is grounded in values that guide everything we do: Collaboration. Trust. Flexibility. Equity. Caring. Innovation.

These principles help us create safe, welcoming, and respectful care for all.

Objectives: Our vision in motion

The plan details the three key objectives identified below, and how we'll achieve them. Our objectives include:

Our People Will Thrive: We want our teams to feel safe, valued, and able to do their best work. Strong teams mean better care for the community.

We Will Transform Access: We are working to make it easier for people to get the right care, at the right time, in the right place, through flexible options and smoother transitions.

We Will Create Impact: We will use evidence, research, and community voices to guide decisions, improve services, and strengthen mental health care across Nova Scotia.

Our hopes for the next five years

In the next five years, we will:

  • Make services easier to navigate
  • Ensure people can access the level of care that fits their needs
  • Create workplaces where staff feel supported and inspired
  • Learn from data, research, and lived experience
  • Work closely with communities to improve care across the province
